SWAPPING FLUORESCENT TUBE BATTENS FOR LED BATTENS
When installing new LED batten lights as a replacement for fluorescent battens, normally, you'll need a certified electrician to come in and disconnect and remove the old one and then connect the power cables that were connected to the that to the new LED battens and secure them in the designated position on the ceiling.
Once the new lights are installed, enjoy the numerous advantages of LED battens, including energy savings, superior quality lighting, long lifespans, high CRI and more.
COMPARING LED BATTENS TO FLUORESCENT TUBE BATTENS
A 5ft 46-60w LED batten light is the equivalent of a 116w twin tube fluorescent batten. LED battens also have a much longer lifespan than fluorescent tubes with impressive warranties.
The difference in the wattage doesn't come at a cost to the light output, as although less to run the LED battens are superior technology with all the other benefits that come with that.
LED battens give out light downwards so that you are paying for light more where you need it. Fluorescent tubes, due to the way they operate, give out light at a 360-degree beam angle.
The upward light distribution and wide beam angle of fluorescent tubes are one of the reasons why they are much more costly to run than the more advanced LED alternative.
The LED battens we have available come in a few different sizes, so whether it is 5ft, 4ft or even 2ft that is needed, the three are available in 4000k and 6500k colour temperature options. The Philips Smartbright LED batten offers a colour-selectable and lumen-selectable option with 4000k, 5000k and 6500k colour temperatures and the choice of 3000 or 6000 lumens in one batten.
When comparing our most popular LED batten, the Philips Coreline 46w, 6000lm 5ft (1450mm) batten to a 5ft 116w fluorescent batten, the LED battens are around 60% less to run, which is not bad considering all the other benefits LED battens have in comparison to fluorescent battens and with the savings the LED version offers, they can also offer some impressive payback periods and continued savings going on from there.
The average rated lifespan of LED battens is 50,000hrs L70.
50,000hrs is over 5 years of constant usage and at 12 hours a day it is around 10 years, in our experience lights in a business will be on for more like 8 hours a day on average over the year which would take around 15 years to reach 50,000hrs. So another benefit of LED battens is that replacement costs go down, as they don't need to be replaced as soon as fluorescent battens and if for some reason they go before the warranty has expired (which is rare to say the least), they'll be covered by the warranty.
